Religious Education

The Church, recognizing that parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children, strives to assist them in this task. (Can793)

Faith Formation ~ PK-12

Fr. Francis Le, O.P., 276-3455

Theresa Lutes, 646-3025

Since parents have given children their life, they are bound by the most serious obligation to educate their offspring and therefore must be recognized as the primary and principal educators. (Gravissimum Educationis/ Declaration on Christian Education) The Church stands ready to assist parents in their responsibility. Catechist volunteers are trained to fulfill the ministry of the Church; by providing an authentic and faith-filled vision, encouragement and support that will foster growth.

The goal of the High School program is to have youth understand, appreciate and articulate the basic beliefs of the Catholic faith and the principles of personal and social morality. In the Grade 9 and 10 classes, the focus is on preparing young people for Confirmation. Catechists hope to lead and support them in their journey toward ultimately making a commitment to the person of Jesus Christ, his Church and to the Catholic Christian way of life.

Catechist Training

Fr. Francis, 276-3455

Theresa Lutes, 646-3025

Catechist training aims to form those entrusted with the task of catechesis to better understand their vocation to serve the Church’s catechetical mission. The central aim of catechesis is to invite and support Christian discipleship in that “catechists transmit not their own teaching but the teaching of Jesus Christ, the Truth that he communicates…and the Truth that He is.” (On Catechesis in our Time, 6) Formation sessions will be offered throughout the year.

Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Fr. Vincent Kelber, O.P., 276-3455

Jean Bennett, 332-2505

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which men and women become members of the Catholic Church. During the process participants who are at different stages in their faith journey come to learn more about the Catholic Church. The RCIA process is ongoing; people begin whenever the Spirit moves them to inquire. There is no formal ‘start’. The RCIA goes on within the context of the parish community and, after a suitable period of formation, culminates in the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at Easter Vigil. The same process is also used for children who are over 7 years old.
